Why “Made in the USA” is Good for All of US

U.S. manufacturing is experiencing a resurgence. With a focus on the economy and job growth, our industry is receiving more positive attention than it has in the last 40 years. More industries and consumers are realizing the importance of manufacturing to our economy. As domestic energy American Flag Image PTC Blogproduction continues to increase, “homemade” goods are becoming more cost-competitive with those made overseas.

Although products made in the U.S. have become more competitive in cost, the quality has remained as high as ever, making it very attractive to contract for products made in a U.S. job shop. Cost and quality are the biggest factors in manufacturing, but the benefits of U.S. made products go much further than that. In contracting with a mid-sized domestic manufacturing operation, the capabilities are equal to those of a larger company, but the experience is enhanced through the personal relationship that is built with the client.

PT Coupling knows this process extremely well. Next year, we are looking forward to celebrating our 65th anniversary in business and many of our clients have trusted in our work for numerous years. As a family owned business we take pride and care in each project and product we complete.

Our services go beyond those of large, impersonal corporations where it may be difficult to get exactly what you need. The dedicated team at PT Coupling is experienced and easy to access and work with. One of our specialties is our expert engineering department that works closely with each client to make sure the products are exactly as they require. In addition to custom capabilities, we also have a wide range of mainstream products available.

After 60+ years, our commitment to the core values of our business, quality, service, and integrity, remain the same. Our success has been built on providing customers with
exceptional products and customer service. The American-made quick connect/disconnect couplings and replacement parts manufactured by PT Coupling are used throughout a wide range of markets including petroleum, industrial, chemical, and food and beverage.

Choosing products made in the USA helps our neighbors, our communities, and our
economy. With PT Coupling’s competitive pricing, on-time deliveries, and higher standards of customer service, is there a reason to look anywhere else?

Safety Awareness is on the Calendar for June

In June we celebrate dads, grads, and SADs (Safety Awareness Days). Actually, we hold our company to safety awareness days all year long, but June has been designated as National Safety Council LogoNational Safety Awareness Month by the National Safety Council. Naturally, we thought this would be a good time to talk about the importance of safety in manufacturing and how we are constantly working to keep our employees and facilities safe.

Staying safe takes work; whether you are at work, at home, out in the community, or on the road. The National Safety Council provides materials and programs to raise awareness and prevent accidents from occurring. Here at PT Coupling, safety awareness is an ongoing commitment that each and every employee is involved with.

Accidents are a leading cause of missed work days, and most are preventable. Since becoming proactive in safety training and awareness, our accident rate has gone down by almost 90%. How have we accomplished this?

Our safety committee, made up of one employee from each department, meets two times per month, with a safety audit being one of those meetings. These meeting allow us to discuss questions/concerns of each department, policies, OSHA rules, safety issues and follow-ups. We have recently completed a new safety video for employees and are working on one for visitors as well.

Engaging employees in valuing safety is a large part of our success. Our motto is INJAM—It’s Not Just About Me—because working together means being mindful of how our actions affect those around us. Following a “safety first” mindset prepares workers for being responsible for their own safety, which in return, helps to keep others safe.

Each month safety issues are reviewed with all employees including topics like tornado shelters, fire safety, electrical safety, ergonomics, etc. On-site safety classes are provided for emergency response training and each area has one to two designated First Responders.

We have also implemented improvements to help employees feel better on the job. Stretch and flex exercises and five minute breaks give workers a chance to recharge, improve their attitude, aid flexibility, and get their blood flowing. The positive response to these improvements has been incredible.

Safety affects everyone, and everyone must be involved. Our company has belonged to Captive Resources Insurance Group for five years and has successfully increased safety awareness across all departments.

First Quarter Recap: What has PT Coupling Been Up to?

The first quarter of 2015 has been filled with many exciting and stimulating events. Our
involvement in a wide range of industries leads us to new opportunities at every turn. To recap what’s been happening with PT Coupling lately, here are just a few recent events and activities that expand on our commitment to quality in every aspect of our business.

As we mentioned in our last blog, we attended the NAHAD Convention and the NAHAD 2015 Amy, Marketing Director Matt, PresidentNTTC Expo. The turnout for both shows was remarkable. We introduced Safety Pumping Systems to a new audience and received very positive feedback. As a system that is a great benefit to the haulers of crude and refined petroleum products, we were happy to be greeted with such enthusiasm. (Amy Parrish, Marketing Director, with brother Matt, President, left).

Another new introduction that was favorably received was the Logo Store feature on our app. Many visitors commented on how easy and informative these electronic offerings are to use. As we continue to move into the future we will continue to add technology that enhances our services.

At our trade show booths, we also included the Performance Distributor Program (PDP) which recognized outstanding work of our team of top performing and loyal distributors to PT Coupling Company. The NAHAD and PDP Award Imagedistributors that showed the highest degree of dedication to PT Coupling’s products, by carrying most of our products, attending onsite training events, and using the equipment was rewarded with top honors to show our appreciation for all of their hard work in 2014. (From the left, Jim Parrish, Chairman & Owner of PTC, Eric Von Kaenel & Bob Jacobs, Goodyear Rubber Products Inc., winners of the PDP, Tom Martin, PTC South East Rep., Matt Parrish, right). Everyone who participated in the PDP last year also received a plaque. We wouldn’t be successful without these dedicated distributors.

We also attended the NAHAD Hospitality Party, a unique mini-trade show event, held in Candy Bar ImageSouth Beach, Florida. This exclusive event brings together manufacturers with different specialties. The annual, white-tie gala was attended by about 300 guests and 9 manufacturers. With everyone doing something different – candy bar (right), sushi, etc. – this was a fun and non-competitive event to network and socialize with others in the hospitality industry.

Now that the first quarter is past, we are heading into the second quarter with a full plate of projects and events. Stay tuned to see what PT Coupling has coming up.

Come See Us at the NAHAD Convention & the NTTC Expo!

Like many of you, attending a trade show is a fun day at work for us. We believe in the value of attending trade shows to get out and network with customers and industry professionals. There isn’t a better way to inform a large, focused audience on what we’ve been up to in the last year.

We will, again, be exhibiting at both the NAHAD Convention and the NTTC. It will be a busy April for us, but we look forward to these shows each year.

We are also proud to introduce a new, innovative product for transloading applications. The Safety Pumping System is specially designed to prevent spills when discharging any liquid from a tanker truck. When pumping stops, the product in the hose is sucked back into the truck allowing the hose to be disconnected without leaking. In addition to preventing the loss of product, this system protects the environment from contamination. We are very excited to bring this system to the attention of the industry.

To meet with us and hear more about our newest offerings, please stop by our booths at these expos:

NAHAD’s annual conventionNAHAD Convention logo will be taking place in Miami on April 23-27. Dedicated to hose distributors, manufacturers and suppliers, the NAHAD convention offers education seminars, business networking opportunities, and exhibits that showcase hose solutions. We will be in Booths 105 and 106 on Sunday at the NAHAD Showcase 8:30am-1:00pm.

NTTC logoNTTC (National Tank Truck Carriers) Annual Conference and Exhibit is being held in Boston on April 26-28. This conference brings tank truck carrier executives, private fleet managers, shippers and trucking professionals from North America together with the industry’s leading suppliers for education programs, advocacy, and exhibitions. You can find us in Booth 412.

We hope that you will stop by and say “hello” if you will be attending either one of these conferences. We look forward to connecting with current customers and showcasing our outstanding products and services to future customers.

Protect the environment with Safety Pumping Systems

The increase of production in the oil and gas industry in this country has led to a great increase in tank truck transport of oil and hazardous fluids. Although moving materials by tanker trucks isn’t a new phenomenon, the increase in the energy boom has heightened awareness of environmental and safety concerns of spills and accidents that occur during transloading applications.

To address this problem, we have partnered with Heavy Duty Innovations, the original designer of the Safety Pumping System, to manufacture and distribute this innovative product. The product came about because of the need to prevent spills after discharging a portion of gas, oil, diesel, alcohol or other liquid product from a tanker truck. After the initial amount was unloaded, the hose was still full of product and the question of how to disconnect the hose without spilling arose.

The answer was a specially designed safety system that sucks the liquid out of the hose and back into the tanker. This jerk-free driver friendly pumping system was created and is revolutionizing the industry. The ease of this system makes it seamless and simple for any truck driver. Built around any pump and consisting of just two welds, the system features controls that are the same no matter what fluid is being pumped.

The driver interface enables the driver to move the handle to the left to load and the right to unload. It offers the ability to stop anytime during pumping and greater control for the driver to realize a problem before a spill occurs. For instance if there is a closed valve anywhere in the system the driver can feel the pressure buildup and recheck connections.

This system mounts on the trailer or tractor of tanker trucks and prevents blowing hoses and overfilling—the leading causes of environments contamination and driver injury. Because of the safety value, this pumping system has been mandated for use by large corporate crude companies.

Offering the best protection of the environment and the safest choice for crude oil transport, the Safety Pumping System is the only transport pump solution with standardized installation, operation, and interchangeable parts.

PT Coupling casts all parts and pieces that are needed to assemble a system onto a truck. You can be assured of the high-quality of each component in this Made in the USA system.

Discussing meaningful issues at Clean Gulf Show 2014

There was an important show last week for those involved in oil spill response. The Clean Gulf Show, held in San Antonio, provides a forum to discuss meaningful policy issues. Industry leaders, equipment manufacturers, government officials and those involved in oil spill response have gathered at this conference and exhibit for the past 24 years.

The conference advisory committee, a veritable who’s who in petroleum, emergency response and government, put together a collection of relevant, timely topics. Attendees learned about the latest in refresher courses from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPS), a keynote address from Rear Admiral Kevin Cook, Commander of the Coast Guard’s Eight District and responsible for the Coast Guard’s activities in the Gulf of Mexico and several panel discussions.

The mega session focused on the growth of oil and gas production North America is currently experiencing. Emphasizing this growth creates new opportunities for the economy; it also presents the potential for more accidental spills both on land and off shore. The conference concluded with several plenary sessions on well containment, training and exercises and the impact of wildlife during and after emergency responses.

The exhibits in the trade show area offered many opportunities to learn about the newest equipment and a “learning lounge” area was a first for the show. This provided attendees the ability to hear some unique presentations presented exclusively in the lounge. The trade show portion also provided many opportunities for networking with key people associated with oil spill response.

Secure-lokOf course, PT Coupling was there. Our booth featured a large assortment of products geared to the conference and show. These included our Pressure safe couplings, Secure-Lok locking system, Safety Bumps and other products from our safety line, all designed to aid in prevention and response scenarios.

All who attended came away better prepared for any emergency response related to the oil and gas industry. While it may be too late for you to attend this year’s event, you can start planning for the 2015 Clean Gulf Show. Visit http://www.cleangulf.org/ and watch information on the 2015 show.
