Selecting Materials for Operating Conditions


Coupler Size

  • —   Understand that coupling size is an industry designation, not the actual measured size. For parts with a female (sockets) coupler end the size is determined by measuring the open end (x) of the coupler.
  • —   For the male (plug) adapter the coupling size is determined by measuring the adapter/plug end (y).
  • —   Threaded, hose barb or flange end? A threaded end can be male or female to match the type and size of your hose end fitting or tool. A barbed end inserts directly into a hose. Certain items are available with British Standard Pipe (BSP) threads.
    • —   Threaded end - Determine the pipe size used. Pipe size is an industry designation, not the actual measured size. Measure the inside diameter (ID) or outside diameter (OD) as shown in the drawing. Then round up the measurement to the closest ID or OD listed in the chart and select the corresponding pipe size.

      Example: If ID (female) or OD (male) measures 1 3/16", the next highest ID or OD in the chart is 1 3/8" and the corresponding pipe size is 1".

      • —   Hose – for use with barbed ends – examples: PVC, rubber, polyurethane or polyethylene hose
      • —   Clamps: use original Punch-Lok® center punch clamps or banding, or an interlocked ProGrip™ C-50 ferrule or C-50 crimp sleeve (see ProGrip™ Section)

Material Features Application
Aluminum w/Brass Cam Arms (HB) or w/300 series Stainless Steel Cam Arms (HBS) *Lightweight and economical. Good abrasion resistance. Fair corrosion and chemical resistance. *Use with water, hydraulic oil, coolants, gasoline, and petroleum products.
Stainless Steel w/HBS Cam Arms *Excellent corrosion-resistant material that provides high strength at high temperatures, helps prevent contamination of product being transported, maintains cleanliness and retains a lustrous appearance. Harder than brass. *Ideal for use with salt water, waste water, and many chemicals; can also be used with hydraulic oil and coolants.
Brass w/HB Cam Arms *A good corrosion resistance, less expensive than stainless steel. Softer and easier to thread than stainless steel and forms tight seals. *Ideal for use with water. Can also be used with hydraulic oil, coolants, gasoline, and petroleum products.
Ductile Iron *Excellent abrasion and wear resistance. Good strength and toughness characteristics. *Ideal for use with sand, grout, cement, and other abrasives.
Hard Coat Aluminum *This is a lightweight material with good abrasion resistance. Good corrosion and chemical resistance. *Use with sand and salt water applications, as well as hydraulic oil, coolants, gasoline and petroleum products.
Polypropylene *Glass-fiber reinforced for strength. Good abrasion and corrosion resistance. Good chemical resistance. Color Black
*Use with water and coolants.
Food Grade Polypropylene *Fair abrasion resistance. Color White
*Use with water, and other food grade applications.
Nylon *Glass-fiber reinforced for strength. Good abrasion, corrosion and chemical resistance. Color Green
*Use with water, coolants, gasoline and varnish.

Operation

The compression on the gasket produced by the camming action produces a positive seal that requires that the surfaces on the gasket seat; the adapter face and the gasket are smooth and uncontaminated. Cam arms must be in the fully closed position for proper locking of the coupling. Couplers come with the standard Buna-N gasket and cam arms, rings and pins are by choice.

Shipping Terms and Conditions

All orders are solicited and accepted with the understanding that the purchaser agrees to the following terms and conditions:
  1. Orders are subject to approval and acceptance by PT Coupling at the home office in Enid, OK.
  2. Minimum order is $25.00
  3. PT Coupling attempts to ship all orders as promptly and efficiently as possible, however; orders are accepted with the express understanding that PT Coupling will not be liable for any losses or damages resulting from any delays in shipment or delivery.
  4. Orders are subject to all government regulations, present and future.
  5. Prices and design of products are subject to change without notice. Billings will be made at prices in effect at time of shipment.
  6. Shortage of shipments must be reported within 5 days after receipt of goods.
  7. Quotes are valid for 2 weeks.
  8. Custom-made parts are non-returnable. If there is no list price in the system, parts are considered custom made.


Return of Goods or Damaged Goods to PT Coupling

If for any reason, you desire to return goods to PT Coupling Company:

Products being returned for credits must be new and in resalable condition. A minimum handling charge of 15% is deducted from the price now in effect or purchase price, whichever is lower. This handling charge, is necessary because of our practice of individually inspecting and testing every item returned and to cover the usual costs of handling returned goods. Any return goods that have been in use, must have material safety data sheets attached to the packing slip on exterior of the shipping container. If not present, parts will be returned to you unopened. All return goods require a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) before credit will be given. Any returns without proper documentation will be returned to the customer at their expense.
